LOCKS

locksLocks are rope-like sections of hair that begin as twists or braids and over time are naturally matted together to create a style. Locks originated in ancient Africa, where this hairstyle was first worn by the Masai tribesmen of Tanzania and Kenya. Warriors of this tribe adorned their hair by twisting it into locks and sometimes dyed their hair red with root extracts or clay when preparing for war.

Instant Locks
Along with the many other widely used techniques, Afrodisiac stylists offer a unique locking technique called Instant Locks. With this process, our stylists are able to lock hair in a matter of hours, greatly reducing the average waiting period, which can take anywhere from one to three months. This method allows our clients to achieve mature locks almost instantly. For more information, please contact Afrodisiac Salon for a consultation.

Palm Rolling
In the palm rolling technique, locks are rolled between the palms several times from the roots to the ends, allowing the locks to mat together after a period of time. This technique is also used in the maintenance and upkeep of locks.

Interlocking
The interlocking technique uses a needle to knot the hair into place. Once the end of the lock is secured, it is pulled through the root several times in different directions, but not too tight.

Sister Locks®
Sisterlocks® is a method used to create super thin matted locks that increase style versatility and ease of maintenance.
